My boss called and asked me to take a weekend shift, just said flatly “help the team out.” Should I agree?

It’s a short story but it’s been bugging me a lot. For real — I’m 26, I work as a nurse at a community hospital in Udon Thani, been at this job almost three years. It’s already tough work, but normally we have a set schedule so you at least get some days off. Even a little rest is something. But this time my boss called me last night around 10:30–10:45 PM and said someone on the team can’t make it, so move your shift and we’ll push your day off to later.

I get emergencies, sometimes you gotta help each other. But calling at ten-something at night and then leaving a message like “read it, reply later” and then going quiet for a day? When I said I already planned to help my mom sell at the weekend market in front of our village on Sunday morning — bags packed, house keys, everything ready, no time to reorganize — my boss just said “can you arrange a little?” with zero flexibility.

Confusing, right. Confusing. Not ok.

I want to be the kind of person who helps the team. I don’t want to be a problem for the boss. But I also have a personal life; my relationship with my mom matters. I still have to request time off in advance and tell my friends. And most importantly there’s no clear overtime calculation — they just said we’ll talk face-to-face later. Service jobs need to consider the customers, but we shouldn’t be taken advantage of, right? Or am I overthinking this lol T_T

Anyone who gets this a lot, what do you do? Should I quietly go so the team stays smooth, or should I ask to talk about a formal swap policy? What should I do?
