Last night I was fixing the file until almost 1 a.m. for real, like around 6 straight hours. Planned to rest a bit then sleep, and in the morning bring the file to the Chiang Mai branch at 08:30. But I had to stop to buy tom yum at the stall near the alley and a paper cup of coffee before going home, because waking up at 5 would’ve killed me, seriously.

I’m an accountant, 23 years old. I do the monthly financial summaries at the office in Asoke. I handle the small group of branch reports alone and last night I uploaded the file named งบ_สิงหา_final_v3.xlsx to the server and sent the link and the file to my boss and teammates via email and Slack with a detailed note of the changes I’d made (and then I put my pen down). Thought it was done.

This morning, at around nine-something, my boss called me into a meeting looking super stressed and dumped a new set of files on me. He said it was the file the client sent back with observations, then pointed at things like “this formula is wrong,” “totals don’t match,” and told me to fix it and send it back by this afternoon. His tone was icy, and he said I had to take full responsibility because I do the reports most often — like…why though?

I opened the client file he gave me and was confused because the client’s version had different formulas than the version I used to check last night. There were also 2–3 extra sheets I wasn’t told would be added and some conditions had been changed in real time. I explained I referenced the file on the server I uploaded last night and that I double-checked with another colleague before sending, but my boss told the team my work wasn’t thorough, that I’d hurt our credibility, and I needed to be more resilient. The colleague who worked with me said they couldn’t help because they were swamped — talk sweet but don’t actually help, ha ha.

It went quiet. Like…I didn’t even know how to argue. The truth is I tried my best, but I was ordered to redo everything alone, and my boss added that if the work didn’t finish on time it could affect my year-end bonus. Tone was super cold, which made it even more pressuring T_T

So now I have to sit and work late again because I need to reconcile with the client’s file and make a document explaining what changed line by line to prevent this happening again — which feels like I’m fixing a mistake that maybe wasn’t even mine, but I’m the one delivering to the client so I’m taking the hit. My eyes are fuzzy at night but I have to get it done.

I’m a bit angry personally because my boss expects me to take responsibility for everything but there’s no clear process, like he didn’t say the master file was edited at 3 a.m. or we should do a shared checklist before sending. I actually suggested making a checklist and a version-notification system, but it’s like I was ignored. Everything’s rushed so there’s no time to think systemically. I also need to issue invoices, close accounts, check bills, talk to stock team — sometimes I have to go to the warehouse myself because they don’t enter data properly. So confusing.

Some coworkers feel for me, some act like they don’t know anything, ask questions but don’t help, which makes me exhausted. I feel like I did everything I could but got judged fast. If this happens again, can I handle it? I’m only 23, not very experienced yet, but I want to do good work not just survive.

Typing on my phone so sorry if I miss stuff. I don’t want to be difficult but I want the workplace to have clear processes and for my boss to hear reasons sometimes, not just point fingers and make me work late and then bring up the bonus — it’s so stressful.

What should I do? Should I talk to my boss directly and ask for clearer processes or a fair division of work, or keep quiet and just fix things as they come? What do you all think, please share.

P.S. If anyone has a sample checklist format for submitting financial reports or a gentle way to ask the team to cooperate, please send it to me, I’d really appreciate it.
