Seaside Music Festival in Hua Hin Breathes New Life into Old Town, Draws Thai and International Visitors

Last weekend the Hua Hin Old Town area came alive again when the seaside music festival ‘Hua Hin Summer Notes’ ran for three consecutive days, featuring local bands, independent artists and DJs from Bangkok performing from early evening until midnight. Organizers said several thousand people attended, including both Thai locals and foreign tourists.

This year’s festival emphasized a mix of musical styles—folk, blues, pop and jazz—with the main stage set on Hua Hin beach and secondary stages spread along the walking street and small alleys in the old town. The program included music workshops for youth, local cultural performances, and a food market highlighting fresh seafood from Hua Hin’s fishermen. Small business owners reported significantly higher revenues compared with a normal holiday.

The mayor of Hua Hin said the festival is part of a plan to revive the local economy after a slowdown in tourism. Officials coordinated traffic management and security, and set up tourist information and emergency service points. Rescue teams and tourist police worked together to ensure attendees’ safety.

Nearby restaurant and guesthouse operators said the event clearly distributed income throughout small communities. Souvenir shops and local art markets saw more customers, while local artists had opportunities to promote their work and sell records and art merchandise. Most international visitors said they came to experience Hua Hin’s traditional atmosphere and appreciated the festival’s blend of contemporary elements with local cultural roots.

Although the overall atmosphere was lively, there were complaints about overcrowding, especially on the walking street where traffic was heavy and parking was limited. Some visitors called for better arrangements to make walking safer and more comfortable. Officials acknowledged the issues and announced plans to improve activity zoning next year, add shuttle services and create temporary parking areas to better accommodate attendees.

Overall, the festival not only added color to Hua Hin’s tourist season but also encouraged the community to collaborate on activities that promote the local economy and culture. Organizers said they will gather feedback from the community and participants to refine the event’s format in the future, aiming to make Hua Hin a fun and sustainable destination for both Thai and international tourists.
