Chiang Rai police expand probe into trafficking network after injured Russian woman found at Mae Sai

Mae Sai police in Chiang Rai province are expanding their investigation to examine possible links after a 19-year-old Russian woman was found injured in the border area earlier this week. Police say the incident may be connected to online recruitment or fraud networks that bring victims into border areas to source labor or hand them over to others.

The case began when villagers reported finding a foreign woman who appeared injured and exhausted in a village near the Mae Sai border checkpoint. Rescue workers and police rushed her to a hospital for medical checks. The woman said she had traveled from another area to the border but gave incomplete information and showed signs that she may have been coerced.
