Phitsanulok Film and Music Festival This Year Features Local Works and Opens Stage for New Creators

The province’s annual film and music festival returns in the first week of September. The provincial government, together with the Cultural Council and local artist groups, has put together an extended program featuring short films, documentaries, outdoor screenings, and musical performances by traditional and contemporary artists to promote the professionalism of local creators and attract cultural tourists.

This year’s highlight is a short film festival that selected 30 works from filmmakers in the northern region and Bangkok, with competition categories for independent creators and for youth. Selected local artists and directors will take part in workshops with experts in sound editing and distribution to online platforms. There will also be a photography and film-poster exhibition reflecting life in Phitsanulok communities.

The music stage emphasizes a fusion between traditional songs—such as local parade music—and new independent bands blending electronic and indie styles. The outdoor stage in a major city park is designed with food-truck dining areas and craft stalls run by the community, allowing audiences to experience local culture alongside contemporary entertainment.

Organizers say the main goal is to create a platform for local artists to present their work before creative audiences and networks of organizers from Bangkok and other provinces, opening opportunities for promising works to receive production and distribution support. In addition to competitions, there will be panel discussions on digital rights management, crowdfunding, and preparing for international stages—topics aimed at young artists seeking to overcome geographic limitations.

The impact on the community and local businesses is expected to be positive. Restaurants, guesthouses, and tourism operators in the city anticipate increased visitors during the festival, while the local arts community will gain income from selling works and participating in activities. The festival also provides youth with clearer creative career pathways and inspires those who want to start producing media to submit works for next year’s contest.

Organizers emphasize that most events require advance ticket purchase, with some activities free to attend. Public-health safety and crowd-management measures have been put in place to ensure smooth operations. Visitors planning to attend are advised to book accommodation and arrange travel in advance, especially on weekends when crowds are expected. The festival also invites local residents to participate as volunteers and event organizers to help ensure the event’s long-term sustainability.
