Hua Hin Residents Alarmed as Tourist Train Hits Beachside Lamp Post; No Deaths but Traffic Disrupted

A tourist train in Hua Hin collided with a beachside lamp post this morning (14 Aug 2026), alarming passengers and visitors on board. Fortunately there were no fatalities, but seven people sustained minor injuries. Rescue teams, military personnel and local police rushed to assist and clear the scene, affecting travel to several popular Hua Hin attractions.

Preliminary checks at the Hua Hin Police Station found a fallen streetlight blocking the tracks on a curve near the beach. The front and platform area of the struck tourist train were damaged. Officials said the train had been traveling at an appropriate speed for the route when it hit the lamp post, which may have fallen due to strong winds or ground subsidence. incident reports and CCTV footage from the area are being collected as evidence.

The Hua Hin municipal mayor said the municipality will work with the Provincial Electricity Authority and related agencies to inspect the condition of lamp posts and protective barriers along the line to reduce the risk of recurrence. Sections of the route will be closed for repairs and to clear the roadway, causing heavy congestion on the beach road and lanes connecting to the tourist train station during rush hours. Some visitors have had to switch to local songthaews (shared pickup taxis) or taxis.

Local beachfront restaurant and hotel operators are worried about short-term impacts on tourism because the train is a key link between popular attractions and Hua Hin’s night market. A local tourism enterprise representative said a multi-day closure would hurt revenues, especially over busy weekends, and urged authorities to expedite repairs and provide alternative routes to avoid job and visitor losses.

On public safety, the Hua Hin district chief urged boat operators and beach activity providers to step up warnings to customers and keep people away from the incident area. He also proposed regular inspections of beachfront infrastructure, including lamp posts, public signs and the track corridor, to prevent similar events. Passengers and tourists who notice anything unusual or need route information were advised to contact the tourist information center located near the station.

Police have formed a working team with relevant agencies to investigate the exact cause of the fallen lamp post and the track condition. The injured have received treatment and are safe. The provincial governor has ordered infrastructure agencies to urgently assess structural stability so travel can return to normal as soon as possible, and promised to provide regular updates to reassure residents and visitors planning trips to Hua Hin.
