Chiang Rai Sound and Culture Festival: A Local Stage Blending Young Artists to Attract Tourists

Chiang Rai is lively again as local authorities, communities and tourism operators have organized an arts-and-music festival across urban and rural areas to revive the tourism economy after a slowdown. The event emphasizes blending local art, tribal culture and contemporary performances by young artists to attract both Thai and international visitors.

Activities include folk music performances, community dances, contemporary art exhibitions and local handicraft workshops. Organizers intend for walking-streets, old temples and community plazas to become stages where local artists can present their work. They also invited artists from Chiang Mai and Bangkok to add color to the program, creating an exchange of artistic perspectives and expanding audience reach.

For residents and local businesses the festival helps generate extra income through sales of local food, souvenirs and homestay accommodations. This aligns with sustainable tourism policies that encourage community participation in shaping tourism development. Accessibility measures were also provided to ensure seniors and people with disabilities can attend performances without barriers.

Long-term expected outcomes from the festival include building networks between artists and local businesses that could lead to other collaborative projects, such as co-produced artworks, short courses for tourists and exporting traditional art to broader markets. Providing experimental spaces for art will help position Chiang Rai as a creative city with diverse performances and strengthen its tourism image focused on authentic visitor experiences.
