Hua Hin Municipality Exchanges Security Measures After Unrest in Nearby Areas

Hua Hin — The Hua Hin Municipality held a meeting with security agencies, civil society groups and tourism operators to review security policies and emergency preparedness following recent unrest and terrorist incidents in several southern provinces, which have raised concerns among tourists and the local community in the resort town of Hua Hin.

The meeting focused on exchanging strategic information and approaches to risk communication with the public. Tourist police and intelligence units clarified that there is currently no information or direct threat to Hua Hin. However, to reassure the public, the municipality has asked agencies to prepare emergency plans, enhance patrols in key public areas such as piers, transport terminals and nighttime tourist districts, and conduct regular drills for responding to serious incidents.

In addition to security measures, the meeting discussed potential impacts on the tourism sector if reports of unrest spread widely. Local business owners said that while Hua Hin has a strong domestic tourist base, negative news can lead to short-term drops in hotel bookings, especially among foreign visitors who may postpone travel. Operators therefore requested government support for positive communications and marketing measures to help revive demand.

Local communities and tourism organizations proposed ways to strengthen resilience, such as training service staff and business operators to spot suspicious behavior, setting up emergency assistance points for tourists in shopping districts, and increasing CCTV coverage at vulnerable locations. The municipality approved a portion of the budget for improving public lighting and installing bilingual information signs to provide clear guidance to foreign visitors in emergencies.

For tourists, the municipality and Hua Hin tourism business association advised following information from official sources such as government news outlets and their country’s consulate, avoiding sharing unverified rumors on social media, and following officials’ guidance when in public areas. The policy aims to build confidence among residents and visitors and to preserve Hua Hin’s reputation as a safe and welcoming tourist destination.

The meeting concluded with a mandate for relevant agencies to report on their actions within 30 days and to hold periodic follow-up meetings. Integrated preparedness and cooperation among government, private sector and community stakeholders were seen as key to maintaining confidence and enabling Hua Hin to respond effectively to future challenges.
