Chiang Rai Cultural Festival Draws Local Artists — Community-Building Activities Throughout July

The Chiang Rai Municipality, together with civil society groups and local artists, will hold the annual Chiang Rai Cultural Festival 2026 from July 10–31. The festival emphasizes presentations of folk arts, Lanna music, local cuisine, and community-linked workshops to promote the grassroots economy and create spaces where residents and visitors can take part hands-on.

A major highlight this year is the "Lanna Innovation" stage, which brings together young artists who reinterpret local elements in contemporary forms across music, performance, and art installations. There will also be traditional performances from a variety of community groups — including native dances, the Khao Pa (rice-offering) tradition — and handicraft demonstrations such as weaving, silverwork, and basketry. Organizers say they want the festival to be a platform for communities to showcase their knowledge and earn income through sales of local products.

The organizing committee is also prioritizing youth participation by offering children’s art workshops, a creative-ideas contest for cultural conservation, and exhibition space for students from Chiang Rai educational institutions. These activities are supported by local public and private agencies to build skills and inspire younger generations to appreciate their cultural heritage.

Organizers estimate that both domestic and foreign tourists will attend throughout the festival, stimulating spending across the service chain — restaurants, cafés, tour operators, and small accommodations.
