Body Found Floating in Pattaya Canal Under Investigation; Identity Unknown, Police Coordinating with Relatives

On 31 July, Sawang Boriboon Pattaya rescue workers received a report of a body floating in a canal near Chaiyapot Alley at about 12:30 PM. When they arrived they found an unidentified male. In initial condition he was wearing shorts and a T‑shirt. Rescuers pulled the body from the water and checked for wounds and personal documents that might help identify him.

Investigators from the Pattaya Tourist Police and Pattaya City Police Station inspected the scene and recorded photos before sending the body to Chonburi Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death in detail. They also reviewed nearby CCTV and interviewed local witnesses to gather more information about when the deceased was last seen.

Preliminary inquiries have not confirmed whether there were signs of a struggle, because the body had begun to decompose. Authorities are awaiting forensic results, including DNA testing. If documents or information are found that can be linked to someone in databases, officials will coordinate to notify relatives. Police have not ruled out any possibilities—accident, homicide, or other causes—and will wait for autopsy findings to reach a case conclusion.

The incident has raised concern among canal‑side communities in Pattaya. Residents and shop workers in the area said they frequently see homeless people and others exhibiting risky behavior, and they are calling on authorities to increase patrols and provide mental health and homeless support services to prevent similar incidents. Locals are also requesting more lighting and additional CCTV at vulnerable points.

For tourists visiting Pattaya, local authorities say the city continues to enforce strict safety measures in major tourist areas. Public safety units have increased patrols on land and water and have set up emergency information points for visitors. Anyone who witnesses an incident or needs help can contact the tourist police hotline or local rescue services immediately.

The case remains under investigation, and officials say they will expedite procedures to reach a conclusion as quickly as possible. They request public cooperation in providing any useful information, including CCTV footage or witness accounts from the time before the body was found. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pattaya Tourist Police station or the police hotline so the case can proceed and help inform area‑based solutions to improve safety for both the community and tourists.
