Friends, please give me some advice. Should we go through with the wedding or cancel? I’m so confused.
So, I’m 22, work in a factory near Udon Thani. Been with my boyfriend for 9 months. There’s only about 28 days left until the wedding, but now I’m stressing about money and his habits that only showed up right before the wedding.
Quick version: he always said he’d split the house and wedding costs so I wouldn’t feel pressured, since he knows my salary’s small — I’m a factory girl, don’t have big savings. But once we actually started planning, like booking vendors at 2pm, changing themes, photographer asking to shift time, he suddenly says he wants a big wedding, invite lots of his relatives, give guests gifts, have many outfits for photos. He told me he’d pay half so I felt a bit relieved, but when I asked for details he said, “I’ll mostly pay myself.” Like…what? He flipped so suddenly, as if we never agreed before.
Another thing is his money behavior. I just found out he has a credit card debt and owes a friend a lump sum
he never told me). Every month he still sends money to friends, sometimes he withdraws cash to go out drinking before sending money to the maid at his house, and he compulsively shops online. I’m not mad about the shopping itself, but then he gets all stressed and says he needs to save to clear his debts first — okay I get that — but combined with the wedding costs it’s too much for me. I’ve saved some, but not enough to genuinely cover half the wedding. I could pitch in a bit more, but it feels so weird that he keeps changing what we agreed. He says one thing, does another, goes silent, then blames me for not understanding his situation. I’m so stressed T_T
I’m in my early twenties, low salary, only enough savings to get by. I want to start a life together without unclear debts and irresponsible money habits, but I’m also scared if I say cancel people will call me heartless because his family expects a lot. At the factory my coworkers already know I’m getting married and some are pressuring me to just accept because “it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance.” I’m scared of making the wrong call — scared of being blamed, and also don’t want to start married life with big problems.
We talked last night until 1am; he behaved a bit better but said I should understand him and that I’m overthinking. He said he likes to spend now, but “if we get married he’ll change.” Ugh, promising the future again. How can I trust that? Should I trust him or walk away now? I’m dizzy.
Has anyone gone through this — planned a wedding and the partner changes money and responsibility stuff right before the day? What should I do? Should I set clear conditions on who pays what or cancel now to spare myself the hurt? What do you guys think hahaha
P.S. Sorry if this is rambling, I’m really stressed and sleep-deprived. Woke up at 3:30am thinking about it. I even left the spare ring on the table but can’t bring myself to pick it up. Is all this moving too fast?
Should I just give up on the wedding? He changed the agreement right before the big day
