I'm interning at the faculty in Phuket.
So, like... today the boss I'm working with messaged at 8:30 AM telling me to make slides and send them by the afternoon, saying it was super urgent. I just finished my second year, so I'm not skilled at a lot of things yet, but I really tried my best. Stayed up till 1 AM making the slides, spent almost 5 hours with a stack of notes and a little calculator in my pocket, then sent it.
After I sent it I felt so nervous. Then I got super detailed comments asking me to fix the whole thing and the data, even though a lot of the bits were stuff the team members gave me and I just compiled. Some teammates dumped their parts on me at the last minute and went quiet — didn’t reply to messages — and when they saw I finished they only messaged “is this correct?” like one short line. I’m like, huh?
I felt so pressured I could barely breathe. They should’ve told me earlier at least half a day or a day before, right? Or am I overthinking? Or maybe I’m not cut out for jobs that need that much speed. I’m 21, a student trying to get experience, not trying to cause trouble.
I’m scared to tell the boss because I don’t want to look unprofessional or like I’m not trying, but I’m really, really tired. Should I dare ask for more time, or just quietly fix things and keep going? Sometimes I get that emergencies happen, but sometimes it’s just bad communication, or I’m just lazy and overthinking it, who knows.
Have you guys dealt with this? How do I set boundaries? Should I tell the boss straight up how much prep time I need? How do I talk to teammates? If I speak up will I just look useless lolol
P.S. First time making a thread here T_T
I'm exhausted from my boss at the faculty where I'm interning — what should I do?
