Hey everyone, kinda surprised I’m actually making a post here for the first time. Sorry if I ramble or type nonsense. I’m 34, been working a front-of-store job like a mini-mart in Nonthaburi for almost five years. Sneaking away from the boss to post this, will go back later.

Last night around 7pm the place was busy, long queue. There’s a small counter table with a tiny pen there. Me and another coworker were taking turns on the register and restocking. The scene: this coworker’s been here like almost three months, but been chatting with the team for a while. Sometimes he jokes and chats with customers, ha.

A customer came to buy something and asked about a promo. I explained and rang it up like usual, but when that coworker walked past the counter he made eye contact with me and loudly said, “Why did you do it like that? Why didn’t you check carefully? Why didn’t you tell them first? How do you expect the customer to feel?” — all in front of the customer and other coworkers. I was stunned, froze. Totally silent, heart pounding for like 2–3 minutes, couldn’t get words out.

He went on and on even though the issue was tiny: the discount didn’t get applied because the customer said they changed their mind and wanted something else but didn’t tell me clearly. Maybe I didn’t hear properly or got confused, but he used harsh words and did it in front of the customer. I tried to explain politely but he cut me off and walked away coldly, didn’t apologize or talk privately.

The manager was in the back and saw it but didn’t call us over or anything, just smiled and said “ok ok” and kept working. Silent again. I felt abandoned to deal with the feelings, humiliated in the store, even though I’m not a newbie — I know my job — but I’m not the kind of person who likes confrontation.

Got home and couldn’t sleep, eyes wide, thinking lots of things. Maybe I’m overthinking? Or should I have fired back in the moment? Would arguing have made it worse? I want the manager to call us in and make him apologize properly, but I also get that maybe they see it as a small thing and don’t want drama. Still it bugs me a lot.

Like now I don’t even want to go to work tomorrow morning. The job’s steady and the pay’s fine, but this feeling makes it uncomfortable and knocks my confidence when I’m at the counter, like someone’s watching me all the time. Or maybe I’m just forgetful, not sure lol.

Anyone who works front-of-house ever had this happen? What did you do? Should I talk to the manager straight up or wait for the coworker to cool down and come apologize? Should I be the one to start the conversation? I’m really confused T_T Please share your experience, thanks a lot.

P.S. If anyone has lines I could say in that situation, share them so maybe I’ll be braver next time.
