Hi everyone, sorry in advance, this is my first time typing like this and I’m borrowing a friend’s login to post. Sorry if this is messy or too long. I’m 34, been working at a small shop in Nonthaburi for almost four years.
This all started about two months ago. One heavy rainy day we ran out of something in stock — it wasn’t really my fault because the supplier sent the wrong lot. But as soon as the boss found out he yelled at me in the shop, “Why didn’t you check?” and then called people over to look, including that new staff who started two weeks ago. It went silent after that.
Like… I get that the workplace needs systems, but being shouted at loudly in front of coworkers and customers without the boss asking my side first was so embarrassing. I tried to explain I’d reported it in the morning, but the boss talked fast and changed the subject, so it looked like I was lying or didn’t care. I was so confused.
After that day things changed. I kept getting more tasks piled on me but my salary didn’t go up. My weekly day off disappeared a lot because other staff asked to swap shifts or leave, like one friend who keeps leaving early to take his mom to the hospital, or a regular customer calls for urgent delivery. I understand those reasons, but the boss excuses some people and praises them even when they’re late, while I do my best and get nagged about tiny things — many out of my control.
Last night was similar. Around 10pm I was sweeping to close when the boss asked if I’d followed up on an order from last night, even though I’d already gone out to deliver once. He said it wasn’t enough and told me to talk to the customer myself. I agreed, but after I talked the customer seemed confused because the boss had changed the offer. I got pushed around about what I should’ve done, even though I’d just followed the boss’s morning instructions. It feels like responsibility is dumped on me, but when anything goes wrong my name is the first one mentioned.
One coworker who joined after me got promoted faster after a short training and gets praised a lot, so the atmosphere is totally different. I try not to care but sometimes I can’t help it. I ride my motorbike home almost midnight and end up thinking too much. My stomach’s growling but I don’t want to stop at the street food shop because I feel stupid for crying over work, but it hurts.
I don’t know what I expect from the boss — maybe a short thank you, an explanation said more kindly, or even a small raise. Instead I get silence or criticism that destroys my confidence. I’m starting to doubt myself — am I not good enough, should I be tougher and fight back, or just find a new job? At my age and with responsibilities, it’s not an easy decision.
There was one night I was so stressed I ate instant noodles alone at home, left the light on, cried quietly, and wondered if quitting would let me find something more understanding, or if I should just learn to cope. Everyone has problems but sometimes I feel so alone — or maybe I’m overthinking. hahaha (T_T)
Sorry if I’m rambling and making this bigger than it is. I just want advice: if you were in my shoes, what would you do? Talk to the boss directly, collect evidence and complain to the owner, or just change jobs? Stay for financial stability or risk something uncertain to maybe feel better mentally?
Has anyone been through this? Share your experience. How do I keep going, or should I leave before it wrecks my mental health? Or am I just being dramatic haha T_T
Thanks to everyone who read this far. I just need an outsider’s view to maybe get a clearer answer. P.S. Sorry again if the text looks messy.
So confused and exhausted — why’s work stuck like this? Need advice
