I'm a nurse in Rayong, 22. Just a little preface so it's clear this actually happened in my daily life.
Yesterday around 3:30pm the boss called the team into an emergency meeting — said she’d teach charting to the new team. It took nearly an hour and a half, but turned into a review of mistakes that have been happening for ages — like she meant to teach, but it actually became nitpicking every single letter. She opened old files and gradually spelled out every mistake like scenes, voice high and shrill, throwing in harsh jokes so the whole room went silent. Super awkward. For real.
One friend was made to stand in the middle of the room in front of us and got asked over and over, “Why did you do it like this?” in a tone like she was trying to pick a fight. I wanted to raise my hand and explain so they could correct it, but I was scared they’d call me out for wasting time, so I just stood there confused, gripping the plastic coffee cup I was holding so my hand trembled a bit. Super uncomfortable. Embarrassing.
Another supervisor there looked at me like it was no big deal, but their tone was harsh and made me feel ashamed. Even if there were real mistakes from being careless, using fear and grading people on their faults isn’t teaching, right? Maybe I'm overthinking or maybe I'm young and not good at handling this, but when it happens often it piles up. That day I was already tired — got up after 5am for my shift — so I snapped a little. Maybe the boss wants to be stricter, but this kind of pressure feels like it's applied in the wrong way.
I want to ask other nurses or people who've had bosses in this mode: what do you do? Should I talk to the boss directly, or wait for another chance? I’m thinking of taking notes and talking after work for like 10–15 minutes casually, but it's tense too — she might not listen. hahaha
I'll update later.
Is this a boss with a sharp tongue or am I just too sensitive?
