What should I do?
So here's the thing: I'm 36, working as a clerk at a small stationery shop in Hua Hin. Been at this job almost four years, breaks aren't frequent, mornings and afternoons swap around, I get tired sometimes but I like the vibe in this area.
The problem is the current boss likes to pass work onto others and never takes responsibility directly. Like if there's a supplier mistake, he'll tell me to follow it up myself, even though it's something he should handle. He doesn't teach how to do it either, just says fix it yourself. I try to sort it out, but does he say thanks? Not really. Just “handle it” and then silence. Never an apology when customers get mad even if it's the shop's fault.
The other day a big order came from a primary school nearby for activity sets. I checked the stock, checked supplier prices, and when the stuff arrived some items were the wrong color and size. The boss just said “contact the sender yourself.” So I had to call the sender in Bangkok around 6pm, even though I'm a shop clerk and there’s no clear internal contact list. He never briefed me, just “you do it” and went back to the billing. I had to keep my cool so much, seriously, but I did fix it for the customer in one day. Spent almost two hours on the phone and lost my voice from talking so long — not used to that.
Once he told me to do the whole monthly stocktake by myself and said if any items were damaged to “deal with it.” So I bought little bags, unpacked and separated returns and new items myself from evening until almost nine. The job took so long, and I had to print lists and mark things with a small blue pen and another mechanical pencil, stack the bills — then at almost ten he changed the plan and said another staff would do it instead, without warning. I was so confused. It's not just once, this happens all the time. Honestly, it's stressful.
Maybe I'm overthinking because the salary is enough to live on and the work isn't physically heavy, but my mental state is declining. When I see him I feel bad, like I'm being taken advantage of, but I'm scared to quit because finding another job in Hua Hin isn't easy. I'm also quite shy and don't like serious confrontations. If I keep tolerating it will I just get too exhausted to do anything else?
Should I try talking to him politely and ask for clearer division of work or request that he write down procedures for handling deliveries so we don’t have to stress later? If I talk and he doesn't change, should I quit right away? Or are there non-confrontational ways to handle this that actually help? What do you all think, what should I do?
P.S. I'm afraid people will think I'm picky but I'm starting to not be able to take it anymore lolol T_T
