I've been working at a hotel in Chiang Mai for a long time. I'm 38, been at the front desk about 8 years, I know the system, I know the regulars, I know my coworkers — but at the start of the month they suddenly moved our shift leader to another department for no clear reason, and someone new came in to replace them. The new person lasted about five days before getting moved again. I'm totally shocked. Like... completely baffled.
The work always ends up falling on us. The previous person had to pick up extra tasks without any real explanation. Some mornings between 7:00–9:30 when check‑ins are busy, the leader actually disappears — like, vanishes, goes into a room or doesn't pick up the phone for 10, 20 minutes. Sometimes they'll chat and answer with one-word things and then go quiet again. People in other parts don't get how these leader changes mess up the check‑in desk — our staff schedules get ruined. We have to run around covering more, some days I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack, honestly I can hardly breathe.
Sometimes I end up cleaning up other people's work and feel like I'm the office trash collector instead of being part of a team. There's no real supervision or training, they say a few words and walk away like orders carried on the wind. There's this little stack of papers on the counter that I arrange every morning — that tiny pile is basically the symbol of the chaos, lol.
Maybe I'm overthinking, but I'm worried the poor communication and constant staff changes will make guests unhappy. I'm so stressed I can't eat. Sometimes I stand by the meeting room window at 3 p.m., take deep breaths, and still feel dizzy.
I want to tell the general manager straight up but I'm scared it'll cause trouble since I don't have any senior title. If I speak up will anything actually change, or should I just wait for things to settle down on their own? Has anyone been through this — what did you do? Please tell me. I'm writing this from the heart T_T
So confused — why do our shift leaders keep changing at the Chiang Mai hotel?
