I work as a delivery rider in Pattaya.
Like... I'm so confused. I'm 25, been a rider almost two years, know the routes, have regular customers, but for almost a month the vibe in the team totally changed.
Before the boss would assign runs properly — call to tell you the time, warn if the queue was heavy so you could brace yourself. Lately his mood's all over the place. Some days he's nice to me, flirty even, teasing my helmet 'cause I put a cat sticker on it, haha. But other days he gives orders then disappears, doesn't pick up calls or reply to messages. And when I ask my shift mates, they look at me cold like I'm being picky or did something wrong.
A week ago I had a big order to a deep alley in the old neighborhood. Left the parking at around 6:40 am. My phone battery was about 30% so I brought a small black power bank. Light rain, narrow road, about a 40-minute ride. I called the coordination number to confirm because the customer had special requests, but the call wouldn't go through. On LINE he just wrote two lines: “Noted” and nothing else. No further explanation. I felt like if something went wrong I'd have to handle the customer myself, and if I had a problem there'd be no one to talk to. That sucks.
One day after work I overheard the other bosses talking about slow workers. They named one person but ended up pointing at me, even though I wasn't slow — my queue got changed mid-shift because a local guy wasn't available. He made a snide remark like “Come on, work a bit.” I just sat there quiet. Didn’t know what to say.
Maybe I'm overthinking, I dunno. I'm shy and I blush super easily. It's so embarrassing if someone's staring and I get shy. But one friend said the boss has been giving the good runs to others more often. That made me even more confused and scared people think I'm not doing my job well, even though my delivery stats are fine — on time almost always, except when it rains hard or there's a real traffic jam or a bike in front breaks down.
I'm afraid if I speak up directly they'll think I'm hot-headed or a troublemaker, but if I don't say anything I'm quietly miserable. I'm kinda freelance-y, take day-to-day runs, no benefits. If the vibe is bad my income will definitely suffer. I gotta pay for repairs on my little bike, fuel costs are up. I don't wanna switch jobs 'cause I know the routes and the customers, but if I keep stressing every day I don't think I can handle it.
Rider friends or anyone who's dealt with this kind of boss, what did you do? Should I speak up about clearer communication, or just look for a new job? I'm scared that talking will make things worse, or maybe I'm just worrying too much.
OP is really confused, seriously. Anyone give me blunt advice please.
P.S. My helmet has a cat sticker on it. If anyone wants to talk about helmets come chat, I wanna talk T_T
