I work at a storefront in a mall in Chiang Mai.
It's a long story so gotta vent first.
I'm 25 and been at this job almost a year, but lately my boss keeps assigning more and more tasks — checking stock, packing stuff, running the page and keeping inventory, instead of just serving customers. Some nights I have to stay until like 22:30–23:00, packing by myself for almost 30–40 minutes a round — sometimes even longer so there's barely any real time to eat. My eyes keep drifting to the wall clock a million times, and the boss just goes home before me like nothing happened. So quiet.
Coworkers chip in with "we know how this market is" but none of them really help properly. I end up taking product photos, doing counts, restocking shelves alone sometimes, sometimes switching with others. In the end I feel taken advantage of. They never clearly mention overtime. When I ask it's always "let's help each other out" or "we'll sort it later" — but later never comes. Super confusing.
I'm worried the atmosphere will get tense if I speak up — I'm scared they'll think I'm making a fuss and that the boss will be displeased — but inside I'm so stressed. Honestly I want to quit all the time lol.
Some people on the team get paid OT by the hour, some don't, which just makes things more confusing. My salary isn't big enough to be spending my personal time every night. If this keeps happening, should I talk to the boss straight up, or start looking for a new job first?
P.S. Typing from my phone so might be a messy write-up, sorry if I missed anything T_T
My boss keeps piling on more work but there's no OT — how long can I take this?
