Sorry, this is my first thread so I might explain things messy. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads. I'm 22, live in Hua Hin, I run a small online shop selling casual fashion tops, I pack and send orders myself every day. Before the weekend market I bring stuff to the stall I rent from someone there to boost sales. It's exhausting but fun lol.
So yesterday something happened that made me really uncomfortable. I rent a stall from the person who manages the market — local, early 40s, seems serious. In his head he's fair, but some of the way he runs things... sigh, hard to explain. There's supposed to be a schedule for days off and a system where new sellers can book spots first, then long-time stallholders get first pick of position. But on the day he swapped spots and put someone who just signed up into a better position, even though I go there a lot. The vendor next to me (we've known each other almost a year) just smiled and said, “It's okay, they just came to try selling,” but her look said everything... silent, you know?
I wasted time setting up, arranging the table, packing and unpacking for about 40 minutes. The night before I loaded the clothes into my car at 11:30pm, barely slept, woke up hoping for good sales. But in the morning my spot was worse, fewer people passing, so I sold less. That day my income dropped by almost half. It's not huge money, but for me it's the shipping cost and a week's worth of food. I also found a small blue fabric string in my box. Looking for another stall is tiring, answering DMs for online orders at the same time, I was so worried and stressed.
What confused me most was the market owner/head of stalls greeting me kind of hollowly: “Don't come too early tomorrow, others might not like it.” Wait, am I the one making others upset? I came at the time they assigned me, but he spoke like I caused trouble, with that careful tone. I was quiet and didn't reply right away. I felt annoyed but also scared of being labelled as someone who stirs trouble in the market. I'm so confused.
Several other vendors saw it happen but nobody spoke up for me. They just stood there smiling and went on chatting about silk and linen. It felt weird and lonely at the same time. I want a selling space where I don't have to worry about whether the stall manager will take advantage of me.
I don't know what to decide — should I talk seriously with the stall manager or back off? Finding another place to sell is exhausting, or should I accept and learn to live with this? I don't like confronting people directly, but it bugs me. Hmmm... should I go talk to him now, or wait until he does it again and then speak up? Right now a customer DM'd saying the item is sold out and I want to send it, I'm in that mood of wanting to laugh and cry at the same time T_T
Or am I being petty? What do you all think I should do? Talk to him directly now, or wait until he does it again and then bring it up? I'll update later.
Just started selling online and ran into this market stall culture... can I keep my spot?
