My parents' house is 1 hour from my husband's house. Driving isn't hard. Both my parents are over 70. My dad is starting to have high blood pressure. My mom has knee pain and walks with difficulty.
I go take care of them twice a month, 1-2 days each time. Doing laundry, cleaning, buying groceries, taking them to the doctor.
Every single time I leave, my mother-in-law says: "Going again?" "Why so often?" "My son is in this house, you should stay and take care of your husband."
My husband stays silent. He doesn't defend me.
I told my MIL that my parents are getting old. She replied: "And I'm not old? I'm old too. Other daughters-in-law don't go back to their parents this often."
The other daughter-in-law she's talking about is my husband's older brother's wife. She's an orphan. She has no parents to go back to.
I'm an only child. Who's going to take care of them if I don't go? Why does being a good daughter to my own parents become a fault in my mother-in-law's eyes?
Every time I go visit my parents, my mother-in-law asks "going again?"
