Before marriage, my husband and I had a serious talk about kids. I was clear that I didn't want any. Reasons: my mother had complications during pregnancy + a family history of difficult pregnancies + I love my career + the state of the world, I don't want to add another burden.

My husband understood. He said: "That's fine, just the two of us is good. We can have a dog or a cat."

3 years married.

Year 1, no one asked.
Year 2, his family started asking: "When are you having kids?" When I said straight up "we're not," everyone laughed. They thought I was joking.
Year 3, now. Every meal at MIL's house comes with the question. Sarcastic comments. Doctor recommendations. Names of fertility supplements.

Last week, MIL grabbed my hand in front of everyone and said: "Mom is asking — please give Mom one grandchild. Please." Tears in her eyes.

I froze. Couldn't smile. My husband didn't speak up. He sat there silent.

And I'm angry at my husband. When we agreed before marriage, it was a joint decision. Why am I facing this alone now?
